Opening a new business
Obtaining the right approvals from Council is essential, whether you're starting a business, expanding or relocating a business, or changing the nature of your business activities.
Most new, established or growing businesses will need a permit to operate - some businesses may even need more than one permit. The information on this page will help you to determine the type of permit you may need.
Our Business Approvals Moreland (BAM) will guide and assist you through the business permits and approvals process from the beginning to the end.
The first step of the BAM process is to complete the online questionnaire that identifies all the permits and approvals required for your business. ***If necessary, a pre-application meeting will be arranged with relevant Council officers to discuss your application requirements. You will not have to book a separate pre-application meeting with Planning.
UPDATE: The pre-application meeting service is continuing but at a reduced capacity. The meetings are run via a video link online through Microsoft Teams and two time slots have been allocated per week; Tuesday 2 - 3 pm and Wednesday 11 am - 12 noon. When a meeting time is confirmed, the Business Moreland Team will send a calendar invitation to ‘Join Microsoft Teams Meeting’.
This is a proactive measure to protect community and staff health in response to coronavirus (COVID-19).
The process of completing the online questionnaire remains unchanged.
What happens next?
We will contact you to acknowledge receipt of your questionnaire within two business days and advise if a pre-application meeting will be booked for you.
